đź“š When I Should’ve Stayed is the second book in the Red Bridge series and let me just say… this one got me! Josie and Clay’s story is a blend of heartbreak, emotional healing, and that swoony small-town romance I can’t ever seem to get enough of.
I was a little worried about jumping in without reading book one, but it honestly it holds its own and can be read as a standalone. Max Monroe does such a great job pulling you into their world without feeling like you missed something.
The dual POV and alternating timelines—“Before the Moment” from Josie’s perspective and “After the Moment” from Clay’s—were such a powerful way to tell their story. Yes, there were a couple moments where I had to double-check where I was at in the timeline, but it never pulled me out of the emotional ride. One minute I was laughing, the next I was tearing up. Classic Max Monroe—always hitting where it hurts but in the best way!!

I married her high school sweetheart and we have three grown children. We recently have become empty nesters as our last baby has gone off to college.
